Gold’s musical journey spans decades and continents. Introduced to jazz and blues by his brother Jay Gold, former General Manager of Mushroom Records, Jon’s early performances included a memorable feature with Dizzy Gillespie on KQED-TV in San Francisco. His love for Brazilian music deepened during a fellowship at PUC-Rio, where he collaborated with legendary artists like A.C. Jobim, Hermeto Paschoal, and Carlos Malta. These formative experiences imbue Squirrel Samba with a sophisticated yet exuberant energy that reflects both technical mastery and heartfelt expression.
Recorded as part of his new album Anahí, the track showcases Gold’s ability to weave intricate jazz harmonies with infectious samba rhythms.
