Shaker Bloomheart, a dynamic ensemble hailing from the heart of the Pacific Northwest, is set to make waves with their compelling blend of punk and indie rock, injecting a burst of energy into the local music scene. Comprising George Kingman (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Mickey Golicher (Lead Guitar), Tim Baldwin (Bass), Sam Ruthen (Keys), and Charlie Cane (Drums), this quintet brings a wealth of talent and experience to the stage.
Their origins trace back to the serendipitous meeting of George and Mickey in their early teens, each playing in separate local bands in Bournemouth. As fate would have it, these bands disbanded, leading them to join forces. With the addition of Tim and Charlie, the band’s lineup solidified during George’s stint at a local music college. Later, Sam entered the picture, drawn together by their mutual love for The Strokes. It wasn’t until four years down the line, while all were studying in Brighton, that he became the fifth and final member. Influenced by an eclectic mix including The Strokes, Spacey Jane, The Vaccines, The Beatles, and more, Shaker Bloomheart’s music resonates with a wide range of listeners. Their notable gig supporting The Magic Gang in 2021 marked a milestone, injecting fresh energy into both the band and the audience, especially in their hometown.
The band’s journey has been punctuated by intriguing anecdotes, from George’s norovirus-induced meeting with Mickey to the mischievous “flight case escapade” during a uni gig. They even sparked a belief that Tim was a famous figure from the film “Trainspotting”. Amusingly, Mickey’s distant kinship with Noel and Liam Gallagher adds an unexpected musical connection. Reviews have hailed their music as “fun, fresh & doused in magnificent surf rock” while lauding their layered guitars and Kingman’s smooth vocals. Their upcoming EP, “stickintheheadable”, was recorded both at Brighton Electric Studios and remotely by the band themselves, showcasing their DIY spirit. Mixed by Joe Reeves and mastered by Timothy Stollenwerk, the EP promises to be a testament to the band’s musical prowess and dedication.
The EP’s title, ‘Second Best’, carries a dual meaning, reflecting the band’s second longer format release while also weaving in a self-deprecating humor, perfectly in sync with the emotional depth of their lyrics. These songs explore the trials and tribulations of young adulthood, touching on themes of unrequited love and the challenges of growing up, set against a backdrop of vibrant, punk-infused pop melodies. Shaker Bloomheart’s music embodies a unique blend of youthful exuberance and mature introspection, promising a nostalgic, yet refreshingly current, musical experience. “stickintheheadable” is poised to carve its mark on the musical landscape, inviting listeners on a journey through the intricacies of young adulthood, one resonating chord at a time.
