On their second full-length album Still Here, Ghost in the Willow deliver a record that feels both raw and expansive. Produced and mixed by Kyle McAulay of Spanish Love Songs, the album blends punk urgency with widescreen rock arrangements. Thick guitars, driving drums, violin textures, and occasional horn sections give the record a larger sonic scope while keeping the emotional core grounded. Fronted by Gil Rodriguez, the Phoenix band continues to exist in the space between punk and melodic rock, embracing the tension that has always defined their sound.
The album opens with The Windshield, setting a reflective tone before the sharper energy of Flick of the Wrist pushes the momentum forward. These early tracks establish the record’s emotional weight, balancing urgency with thoughtful lyricism. The closing stretch brings the record toward a personal conclusion. Love Kills carries a darker emotional charge, driven by distorted guitars and urgent rhythms, before the album finishes with My Dad & I, its most intimate moment. The track allows Rodriguez’s storytelling to take center stage, offering a reflective ending that ties together the album’s themes of grief, endurance, and connection.
