Drag me by the hair – 50mething

Drag me by the hair is not just a song—it’s a protest set to music, driven by conviction and lived experience.”

Independent artist 50mething steps forward with Drag me by the hair, a bold and politically charged single that confronts questions of bodily autonomy and social justice. Written in response to the landmark legal reversal of Roe v. Wade, the track channels frustration, empathy, and defiance into a piece of music designed to spark conversation.

From its striking opening line—“when I bleed, I know I’m safe”—the song establishes a tone that is both confrontational and reflective. Rather than presenting a detached commentary, Drag me by the hair approaches the topic with emotional urgency, exploring the fear and loss of agency that many people felt following the ruling. The track stands as an artistic response to a political moment, using storytelling and lyrical imagery to keep difficult issues at the forefront rather than letting them fade from public attention. The artist behind the project brings a unique life perspective to the music. Performing under the name 50mething, the creator arrives in the music world later in life after careers that included professional dancing and garden building. Now at 58, the decision to release music marks a new creative chapter. With more than 70 completed songs waiting to be shared, the project draws heavily on personal experiences and global events as inspiration.

Drag me by the hair was recorded entirely in a home studio setup. Over time, the artist has assembled a small recording space complete with a handmade vocal booth, instruments, and a 24-track digital recorder. While the songwriting and recording are handled independently, the final mixing and mastering stages involved collaborations with professionals including Sefi Carmel and Daniela Rivera through the online audio service SoundBetter. This release follows the earlier single Slowly Through the Night, which addressed the artist’s personal experience with a cancer diagnosis in 2024. Together, these songs reveal a creative voice shaped by real-life events—health struggles, family changes, and the everyday resilience that comes from simply continuing forward. By releasing music gradually through Ditto Music, 50mething plans to unveil a large catalogue of tracks over time. If Drag me by the hair is any indication, listeners can expect music that is unafraid to tackle difficult subjects while grounding its message in honest storytelling.  the single stands as a reminder that music can still function as commentary, protest, and reflection—especially when it is created by someone determined to keep important conversations alive.
