‘Human’ started as a result of frustration and has since become a message of unity, showing that music is still able to bring people together when the world is divided.
Certain songs begin with a simple idea while others come about because the artist feels that they have no alternative but to express themselves. For British singer-songwriter TaniA Kyllikki, ‘HUMAN’ was of the latter type – a heartfelt reaction to the division, hostility and judgement which she was seeing around her. The post that originally started on Facebook unexpectedly developed into a strong techno-house soul blend made together with her husband and producer Rynellton (Garry D. Hairston).
“HUMAN” had never been included in the original plans for TaniA’s upcoming album *FREE-SPIRITED*. Since they had already finished the last song, the two of them went back to the studio after TaniA found that the words from her previous post were still staying with her; in their bedroom studio they then discussed the idea of recording one more song, namely “HUMAN”, from which point the track started to take shape. “HUMAN” represents a bold combination of soulful expression and electronic energy. TaniA’s remarkable vocal range provides the emotional depth, shifting smoothly between tender moments, strong belts, and gospel-style runs, whereas Rynellton’s production establishes a hypnotic base made up of pulsating rhythms, atmospheric textures, and techno-house influences. The contrast between the organic soul and the electronic production is what gives the song its distinct character, enabling the message to reach both the emotions and the body. At its heart, “HUMAN” serves as a reminder of the various things that people have in common despite their differences. Instead of emphasizing separation, the song puts forward a more fundamental question: what does it actually mean to be human? The backstory of the song is also a reflection of TaniA’s own resilience. Even though she has been suffering from serious continuous health problems which have impaired her ability to work in ordinary studio settings, she has kept on making music from a recording area that she has constructed next to her bed. Because of her dedication to her work, she has been able to continue producing, writing and performing even during tough times. TaniA has established with Rynellton a creative partnership grounded in trust and a spirit of experimentation. She is in charge of coming up with the vocal concepts and setting the emotional tone, while Rynellton develops the production in accordance with her vision so as to produce a sound that embodies the artistic strengths of both of them. TaniA Kyllikki offers in ‘HUMAN’ more than simply a song that combines different genres; it is a song on connection, a reminder of our shared humanity, and evidence that creativity can keep developing even when things are difficult.
