A few musical projects start with a song, others with a feeling, but Space Cadet 56 starts with an entire universe. This ambitious multimedia project, which was created by the British author, artist and musician James Tottle, combines storytelling, visual art and over 30 original pop-rock songs to produce something that goes well beyond a normal album.
The central figure in the story is Patient 56, an unknown man with complete amnesia who might possess the extraordinary solution to a mystery concerning a spacecraft astronaut who is said to have died and a failed mission to Mars. Via music and storytelling, Space Cadet 56 examines issues relating to identity, discovery, resilience, and the quest for meaning. Each song functions as a further element of the big picture, contributing to a richer emotional atmosphere for the characters and their journey. James Tottle combines an uplifting pop-rock style with more atmospheric and reflective sections.
