Snowapple Collective’s ‘Utopia’: A Bold Reflection of Tomorrow’s Emotions

Snowapple Collective’s new album ‘Utopia’ is not just a collection of songs, but an exploration of what it means to search for hope in uncertain times. Recorded in Italy with Owen Pratt in spring 2024, the project balances the cool edge of synths and guitars with the warmth of clarinet, strings, and layered vocals. Influenced by icons like Patti Smith, David Bowie, Laurie Anderson, and Portishead, the collective creates soundscapes that feel both otherworldly and grounded in human emotion. At its heart, ‘Utopia’ asks a simple question: how do we return to our bodies and find connection in a world that feels increasingly fragile?

The album begins with “Little Little Star”, a tender dedication that opens the record with intimacy and calm. “My Body” takes a more direct turn, confronting identity with a mix of vulnerability and strength, while “She Ella” brings a lyrical softness, flowing like a personal story whispered into sound. “Plants” feels natural and meditative, its harp and piano carrying a calm atmosphere before “I, Cyborg” jolts the listener into futuristic chaos, blending sharp electronics with raw emotion. “Transparent” carries that same unease but with a gentler reflection, while “Mirror” balances synth tones with thoughtful lyrics that seem to question self-image.

Later, “Angel” offers a delicate, almost spiritual mood, its harmonies floating gently, before “Frozen” enters with icy textures that leave an impression of distance and stillness. “Calculator” brings an unexpected edge, mechanical yet strangely playful, while “Made of Gold” shines with warmth, offering one of the record’s more luminous moments. “Inter (live)” closes the album with raw energy, reminding listeners of the collective’s theatrical roots. Taken together, these songs make ‘Utopia’ more than an album—it is a bold statement about fear, hope, and the fragile search for connection in a changing world.
