Snowapple Collective – She Ella (Alessandro Baldessari Remix)

“With chopped up vocals, driving percussion and a deep synth bassline ‘She Ella’ has a completely new energy about it without in any way losing the character that made it such a fan favourite.”

“She Ella (Alessandro Baldessari Remix)” is a real game changer on one of the big tracks from the Snowapple Collective’s 2025 album *Utopia*. Alessandro Baldessari takes the original and completely reworks it into a much more driving, dancey piece. It’s a remix that’s absolutely built around movement, with every element of the production adding to that sense of forward momentum.

One of the more interesting things is the way the vocals are treated. Rather than just having them sit on top of the song as they are, Baldessari chops them up into little rhythmic pieces and weaves them into the track. They become part of the pulse of the song, a kind of game between the voice and the electronic music. It gives “She Ella” a completely different character, rather than the vocals just being something that’s on top of the music. The extra percussion is just as vital. It gives the remix a real punch in the rhythm and the synth basslines provide a much deeper electronic bed. The two together really drive the track into the dancefloor realm without in any way altering the track’s identity. There’s a real sense of momentum in the way the parts are layered together, the percussion, the bass and the vocal edits all working in unison to keep the arrangement moving. It’s not just about making it louder and faster, it’s about exploiting the possibilities within the original.

That balance between the original songwriting and the electronic experimentation was absolutely key to the remixing process. Snowapple first came into contact with Baldessari when he was doing orchestral arrangements for a concert at Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris in Mexico City with the Orquesta Minería Pops. He then worked very closely with *Utopia* producer Zlaya Loud and Laurien SHE Snowapple to work through various versions of the remixes before they settled on the right one. The end result is very much the product of that collaboration, with the new production giving “She Ella” its own identity whilst still being rooted in the original song. The track also provides another route into the creative universe of *Utopia*. Snowapple’s original album was an exploration of emotion, fear, desire and the individual in relation to the collective body, achieved through a mixture of art rock, alternative pop and electro-ambient. This remix takes that same experimental approach and puts it into a more rhythmic context. Rather than looking at the album as a whole and the themes it addresses, it’s all about the possibilities of the track itself and how a different arrangement can completely change the way you experience the song. For Snowapple “She Ella (Alessandro Baldessari Remix)” is another piece from their final foray into their more recent Cyborg Art Pop period before they go back into the studio again to work on a new sound. As a single it works perfectly in that it gives a familiar song a new lease of life. The chopped vocals, the added percussion and the synth bassline all contribute to a much more energetic version of the song which is a very welcome alternative to the original. A considered rework which gives the song a much stronger electronic drive without in any way undermining the original.
