escape the box – Dead Ends And Daydreams

“There are times when the most intense struggles are concealed behind a straightforward ‘I’m fine’, and Escape The Box provides a space for those feelings to exist.”

Escape The Box, a UK alternative metal group, investigate in *D.E.A.D. (Dead Ends & DayDreams)* the conflict between feeling bound by reality and finding a sanctuary in the world within one’s own mind. The six-track EP was released independently on 25 September 2026 and combines aggression, vulnerability, electronic textures with melodic songwriting. Instead of settling on a single mood, the project shifts between opposing emotional states, just as difficult experiences can cause a person to feel angry, exhausted, disconnected and at the same time still be searching for something to grasp onto.

The main idea of the EP is clear from its title: Dead Ends & DayDreams reflects the sensation of arriving at a stage where there seems to be no way forward, while the imagination provides an alternative destination. This contrast is what gives the project its character. Escape The Box are not offering music as a means of pretending that problems don’t exist; rather, they are creating a space in which those feelings can be recognised. This purpose is exactly as described by the duo themselves: they do not want to help listeners escape reality, but instead wish to give the emotions they carry the opportunity to go somewhere. It forms a strong basis for a release that deals with themes such as loss, isolation, pressure, relationships, and survival. In the EP, contrast goes beyond merely being a stylistic decision; it is essential to understanding how Escape The Box carry out their songwriting. The tracks “Grave” and “Almost” show the heavier and more immediate aspect of the project, whereas “Cement” and “Silence” illustrate a more melodic and vulnerable approach. This shift between heaviness and restraint enables the EP to examine different ways of dealing with emotional pressure. It is possible for heavy guitars and an aggressive production to convey frustration and intensity, while melody and atmosphere provide space for feelings that are more difficult to face head-on. Instead of seeing vulnerability as the opposite of heaviness, the two act as different elements of the same experience. “Great,” the duo describe as their personal favourite, is a good place for new listeners to begin. The position of the song in the project provides a chance to get a feel for the world that Escape The Box have created without having to assume that one track can capture all aspects of their music. The other tracks also help to paint the EP’s overall emotional picture. “Hoodies” is included with “Silence,” “Almost,” “Grave,” “Great,” and “Cement” in the tracklist, which implies a series of different moments rather than the same idea being repeated six times. Each song makes up part of a broader investigation into the thoughts and feelings that people often keep to themselves.

Escape The Box is made up of Ziey Kizzy, who provides vocals and produces the music, and Dreadf4ll, who plays guitar and is also a producer. They write, record, and produce their own music, which enables them to blend alternative metal and metalcore with electronic production, dark pop, and post-hardcore elements. The fact that Ziey Kizzy has production experience—such as the work she has done with Corey Taylor, Rose McGowan, and Kid Bookie—contributes an additional aspect to the duo’s creative background. Nevertheless, the main characteristic of this project is their dedication to developing a sound that serves the songs rather than trying to conform to a specific genre. In the end, *D.E.A.D. (Dead Ends & DayDreams)* is concerned with the emotions that people experience as they go about their daily lives. The way the album blends sadness with melody shows the gap between what someone presents to the world and what they might be going through on a private level. Escape The Box don’t provide easy solutions or claim that music can fix all problems. Rather, they make a space in which frustration, uncertainty, and vulnerability can be expressed. For those who have at some point found it difficult to put into words what they are feeling, this EP provides something worthwhile: it isn’t an escape from reality, but rather a place where one can accept the weight of it.
