File under: Dadrock – Dominik Wrana

“File Under Dadrock proves that honest guitars, strong grooves, and real musicianship never go out of style.”

Dominik Wrana & States of Matter lean into their identity with confidence on File Under: Dadrock, a five–song EP that blends classic rock spirit with alternative edge. The Mannheim-based group draws from the warm groove of 1970s West Coast rock and the dynamic quiet-to-loud style that shaped the alternative scene of the 1990s. The result is a record that feels relaxed, confident, and very human. Nothing here sounds overproduced or artificial. Instead, the band focuses on tight playing, strong rhythm, and songs that feel natural from start to finish.

The EP opens with “On the Road,” a track that sets the tone immediately. The guitars roll forward with an easy groove while the rhythm section keeps things moving steadily. It feels like a driving song in the classic sense, the kind that fits perfectly with long highways and open skies. “Looking Back” follows with a more reflective mood. The band pulls the energy down slightly, letting melody take center stage while the instrumentation builds gradually around it. The song carries a nostalgic tone without sounding stuck in the past.

“Mofuday” shifts the atmosphere again, leaning more into the funk side of the band’s sound. The groove becomes tighter and more playful, with the rhythm section locking into a rhythm that gives the track its personality. It is one of the EP’s most rhythm-driven moments and shows the band’s ability to stretch their sound while still staying grounded in rock. “Midlife Crisis” then brings the guitars forward again, with a punchier alternative rock feel. The loud and quiet contrasts give the song a strong sense of movement and emotional tension. The EP closes with “Opus #1,” a track that feels like a natural summary of the band’s style. It blends groove, melody, and guitar work in a way that feels relaxed but confident. By the time the final notes fade out, File Under: Dadrock leaves a clear impression: Dominik Wrana & States of Matter are not trying to chase trends. They are simply making honest rock music with character, groove, and a clear love for the craft.
